I've been asked by a few people why I (Eriks Goodwin) am calling this Forum as President instead of relying on the Board to call the forum and preside over it.
First, let me say that the forum's goal is to LISTEN to the Owners.
There are several reasons I went forward of my own accord as the President, but here are the primary ones:
- Many owners have expressed their desire to see the Bylaws and the Covenants discussed and possibly modified--and quite a few have recently raised discontent voices that it has not already happened.
- A forum that is "moderated" by me as President will give the rest of the Board the ability to express their opinions as equals with their fellow Owners--not express them from the perceived power of the head table.
- Beyond the goal of finding whatever consensus may exist among the Owners, my other goal is to spur engagement and involvement by other Owners to fill the many vacant seats on the Committees.
- A majority of the Board has not taken up the initiative of its own accord (not to say that they would not have, just that it had not happened yet).
I agree 100% that we need community unity, not division. My methods may not always be conventional or expected, but I will always stay within the lines. My track record with other HOAs bears out my dedication to serving the interests of all owners, not just the vocal few. If I'm proven wrong, I will immediately adopt the correct answer. I do not do this for ego or power, I do it in service to the Owners and do my best to represent their views.
All of that said, I hope that you, the entire Board, and as many Owners as possible will participate--so that the Board will have clear guidance from the Owners as to what they want. Perhaps this will aid in unifying the Board as well--as that is my most fervent hope.
Respectfully,
Eriks Goodwin
ULWSA President
